PURPOSE: To produce a catalyst for hydrogenation treatment of high activity without calcining by impregnating an inorg. oxide carrier with an aq. soln. comprising an oxide of group VI metal, carbonate of group VIII metal and phosphoric acid and then drying.
CONSTITUTION: An inorg. oxide carrier comprising a porous material such as alumina, silica, titania, zirconia is impregnated with a soln. to deposit active metal. This soln. consists of oxides of group VI metal (by about 5-30wt.%), carbonates of group VIII metal (by about 1-8wt.% calculated as oxides) and phosphoric acid (by about 0.1-8wt.% as P2O5). As for the oxide of group VI metal, molybdenum oxide or/and tungsten oxide is used. The carbonate of group VIII metal is basic nickel carbonate or/and basic cobalt carbonate. The phosphoric acid is various phosphoric acids such as orthophosphoric acid. Then the impregnated carrier is dried at ≤200°C. By this method, calcination process is unnecessary, and a catalyst of higher activity than a conventional catalyst can be produced.
