PURPOSE: To accurately fix a cathode starting sheet vertically to a cathode beam with good adhesion at the time of fixing the sheet to the cathode beam with a hanger ribbon in a copper electrolytic cell by pressing the ribbon with a presser of specified shape to cause plastic deformation.
CONSTITUTION: A cathode beam 2 is arranged close to one of the grooves of a pure-Cu starting sheet 1 as a cathode to be used in a Cu electrolytic cell, a hanger ribbon 3 is bent into 4 a U-shape by a roll 4 provided with a spring, and the roll 4 is further advanced to bring both ends of the ribbon 3 into contact with the sheet 1. The ribbon 3 is then pressed on the sheet 1 from both sides of the ribbon 3 with a caulker 6 furnished with a presser 8 having a circular abutting surface to cause plastic deformation, and the cathode 1 is firmly attached to the cathode beam 2 through the ribbon 3. The sheet 1 is accurately and vertically fixed to the cathode beam 2, hence the sheet 1 is not brought into contact with the adjacent anode in the electrolytic cell, and a short circuit is never caused.
