To obtain a cellulose acetate film capable of being rapidly allowed to gel, having excellent physical and optical properties, and useful as a photographic material, etc., by processing a cellulose acetate solution by a solvent cast method.
This method for producing a cellulose acetate film comprises dissolving (A) a cellulose acetate in (B) an organic solvent preferably at a temperature of 0-200°C, mixing the prepared cellulose acetate solution with (C) an alcohol having a boiling point of 30-170°C or (D) a hydrocarbon having a boiling point of 30-170°C, casting the prepared mixture on a support, and subsequently evaporating the solvents. The component B is preferably a mixed solvent comprising 75-89 pts.wt. of dichloromethane and 11-25 pts.wt. of methanol or ethanol. The component C or D is preferably used in an amount of 0.5-30 pts.wt. per 70-99.5 pts.wt. of the component B. The concentration of the component A is preferably 17-40 wt.%.
