Abstract:

PURPOSE: To produce cellulose acetate having excellent filtering characteristics, transparency and spinnability from a low-grade pulp having an extremely low content of α-cellulose by specifically treating wood pulp and then reacting.
CONSTITUTION: In obtaining cellulose acetate by grinding a cellulose raw material, pretreating, subjecting to an acetic ester formation reaction and hydrolyzing, when wood pulp having 85-93wt.% α-cellulose content is used as the cellulose raw material, 1 pt.wt. pulp is treated with 0-20 pts.wt. solution of acetic acid as pretreatment of the wood pulp and then the cellulose raw material is subjected to acetic ester formation reaction, optionally an acetylating catalyst in an amount to give 0.5-20 pts.wt. catalyst based on 100 pts.wt. pulp is added to the acetylating system. The hydrolysis is carried out by neutralizing the acetylating catalyst and introducing steam to the system under pressure at 125-170°C.
