PURPOSE: To obtain a cephalosporanic acid derivative in high yield without generating waste liquor causing environmental pollution problem by reacting a specific cephalosporanic acid derivative with a chloroacetic acid lower alkyl ester in an aqueous medium in the presence of an acylase, etc.
CONSTITUTION: This 7-chloroacetylamino-cephalosporanic acid derivative of formula II is produced by reacting a cephalosporanic acid derivative of formula I (A is H or phenylacetyl; R is H, OH, acetoxy or a halogen) with a chloroacetic acid lower alkyl ester in an aqueous medium in the presence of an acylase or an acylase-containing material such as acylase originated from an acylase- producing microorganism belonging to the genus Bacillus or Escherichia such as Bacillus megaterium B-400 (FERM P-748).
