PURPOSE: To produce ceramics free from cracks by hydrolyzing an organometallic compound to give a sol solution, dissolving a subliming organic substance in the sol solution, drying the solution at a specific temperature and calcining.

CONSTITUTION: An organometallic compound (e.g. silicon alkoxide) is dissolved in a solvent (e.g. methyl alcohol) to give a solution, which is incorporated with a catalyst (e.g. HCl) and water and hydrolyzed to give a sol solution. Then the sol solution is blended with a solution containing 1W30wt.% subliming compound (e.g. adamantane), packed into a container, sealed, aged at a given temperature, gelatinized, dried for several days and heated to a temperature ≤the melting point of the subliming organic substance to remove the subliming organic substance. The resultant substance is dried and calcined.
