Abstract:
PURPOSE: To produce chloranil having low residual chlorine ion content under mild condition with simple operation.
CONSTITUTION: Hydroquinone is made to react with chlorine in a mixed solvent consisting of water or hydrochloric acid and an organic solvent incompatible therewith. After separating the hydrochloric acid phase, the organic solvent incompatible with water or hydrochloric acid and containing dispersed chloranil is made to contact with an alkaline aqueous solution having pH of >7 and ≤10, e.g. an aqueous solution of sodium bicarbonate.
