PURPOSE: To produce a clad wire rod having diversified composite ratios with good productivity by heating a core material having a cleaned surface in a non- oxidizing atmosphere then sticking and solidifying a different metal around the core material and rolling the material in a required atmosphere.
CONSTITUTION: A core material A10 is passed through a cleaning device 22 and is washed continuously. Such cleaned core material A11 is fed to a heater 21 of a housing 20. The inside of the housing 20 is maintained in a non-oxidizing atmosphere to prevent oxidation of the cleaned core material A11. The heated core material A12 is inserted into a crucible 7 from below and is immersed in a molten metal 9 of a different material to stick and solidify the molten metal around the material A12. The resultant clad casting A13 is fed to a cooling column 10 in which a non-oxidizing atmosphere or the like is maintained, thereby cooling the casting. The cooled casting is rolled down to a required diameter in a hot rolling device 11a in succession thereto and is cooled to obtain a clad wire rod A14. Since the rolling stage is maintained in the non-oxidizing gaseous atmosphere, the stuck and solidified part is free from oxidation.
