To provide a method for producing a coated paper for printing excellent in flatness and printing gloss, having high resilience and blister resistant properties and suitable for color printing, etc., by performing paper making of specific pulp to make a raw paper, coating an aqueous coating composition on the raw paper, drying the coated paper and passing the dried paper through a hot soft calender.
A pulp slurry containing pulp treated with an enzyme having activities for degrading xylan (e.g. xylanase) and consisting essentially of wood fiber pulp is subjected to paper making by a gap former type paper machine to form a raw paper. The obtained raw paper is coated by an aqueous coating composition consisting essentially of a pigment and an adhesive, dried to form a coated layer, and smoothed by passing the paper through a hot soft calender to form the objective coated paper in the method for producing the coated paper for print. When the enzyme has no activities for degrading a filter paper, only the xylan in the pulp is degraded and thereby the paper is formed into the porous one while retaining good paper strength.
