PURPOSE: To form a compact from a powdery material with a simple construction by carrying out pressing, where an upper punch is moved toward a closed position and a lower punch is moved toward a pressing position facing to an upper punch to form a powdery material, and carrying out repressing by moving a die with the lower punch at the end of a processing.

CONSTITUTION: After powder is filled into a mold cavity 5, an upper punch 1 is moved toward a closed position. Then a lower punch 2 is moved upward toward the upper punch 1 so that it is positioned at a pressing positions 2b, sand a pressing is carried out. In this pressing method, a press die 3 is fixed and the upper punch 1 is also fixed at a closed position 2a during a pressing process. In the case where a sliding upper pressing is simultaneously carried out for improving a density distribution, the die 3 together with the lower punch 2 is moved upward in a preliminarily specified pass at the end of a processing by the lower punch 2. Thus a compact is manufactured by forming a powdery ceramicparticles or a powdery metal with a press machine.
