To provide an anti-fogging mirror, lens, glass or other transparent base material capable of keeping high-degree surface hydrophilicity and high- degree anti fog capacity and a method for producing the same, a highly hydrophilic anti fouling base material prevented from surface contamination or having a self-cleanable or easily cleanable surface and a method for producing the same.
A composite material having a hydrophilic surface is produced by a process for preparing a base material and a process for coating the surface of the base material with a photoreactive layer containing a photocatalystic semiconductor material and showing water wettability of about 10° or less in terms of a contact angle with water at a time of light excitation. The coating process consists of a process for coating the surface of the base material with a membrane of amorphous titania and a process for heating the membrane to temp. equal to or lower than the softening point of the base material to convert amorphous titania to crystalline titania.
