PURPOSE: To obtain an electrophotographic photoreceptor which is free from interference fringe defects and has decreased image defects by rubbing the surface of a conductive base body for the electrophotographic photoreceptor finished to a mirror finished surface or nearly a mirror finished surface state by using a buff material to clean the surface and roughening the surface.
CONSTITUTION: The surface of the conductive base body for the electrophotographic photoreceptor finished to the mirror finished surface or nearly the mirror finished surface state is rubbed by using the buff material, by which the surface is cleaned and is simultaneously roughened. The conductive base body includes, for example, a metallic drum, etc., formed by using metals, such as aluminum and nickel, or alloys. The process for producing the conductive base body for the electrophotographic photoreceptor comprises rotating a cylindrical base body consisting of a conductive material around its central axis, pressing a circular cylindrical body having a surface consisting of the buff material, under rotation around its central axis, onto the surface of the conductive base body while spraying a degreasing agent, such as solvent or surfactant at a proper amt. to the surface of the base body and rubbing the surface of the base body, thereby cleaning the surface and forming fine cleaning flaws on the surface of the base body as well.
