Abstract:
PURPOSE: To produce an iron-containing coolant for refining a steel at a low cost by adding and mixing prescribed quantities of coal, iron ore, slag and metallic fibril into a rolling mill slurry, adding a specific quantity of binder and forming into egg-formed material.
CONSTITUTION: Rolling mill slurry having much oil content in an amount of 55-93 wt.%, 5-25% coal, 5-15% metallic fibril, 1-15% iron ore and 1-15%% slag are mixed. The mixed material is covered and held still and mixed coal is slaked. The obtd. mixed material is uniformized, and after adding 4-10% binder to the mixed material, the material is compressed into the egg-form. This egg- formed material is desirable to be elastic shape having 20-60 mm length and 10-25 mm thickness. Further, the metallic fibril is suitable to be the one containing iron of grinding waste, etc., and having about 5 mm the max. length and about 0.3 mm average diameter. The egg-formed material is obtd. by utilizing the rolling mill slurry to be wasted and the heat conductivity is good and the decomposition in a converter is slow and this is suitable as the coolant for steel refining in the converter for steelmaking.
