PURPOSE: To produce the titled copolymer emulsion having excellent flexibility and adhesiveness and useful as an adhesive for fibers, by emulsion-copolymerizing vinyl acetate and an acrylic ester in the presence of a specified chlorinated PE.

CONSTITUTION: A monomer mixture consisting of 50W80wt% vinyl acetate, 10W 30wt% acrylic ester, 10W25wt% ethylene and 0W5wt% crosslinkable monomer (e.g. N-methylolacrylamide), is emulsion-copolymerized in an aq. medium and in the presence of 5W25wt% (based on the amount of a polymer produced) chlorinated PE having a chlorine content of 50wt% or more, an anionic or nonionic emulsifying agent, a protective colloid (D) such as PVA and a polymn. initiator such as H2O2.
