Abstract:
PURPOSE: To suppress the occurrence of a fine coagulated substance and efficiently obtain a copolymer latex excellent in polymerization stability by adding a specific amount of an oil-soluble polymerization inhibitor in carrying out emulsion polymerization of an aliphatic conjugated diene-based monomer and other monomers.
CONSTITUTION: An oil-soluble polymerization inhibitor (e.g. hydroquinone) in an amount of 0.05-0.5 pt.wt. based on 100 pts.wt. monomer mixture of an aliphatic conjugated diene-based monomer (e.g. 1,3-butadiene) with other copolymerizable monomers (e.g. acrylic acid or styrene) is added to carry out vaporizing polymerization. The polymerization inhibitor is preferably added by a divided addition method or a continuous addition method. Furthermore, the composition of the aforementioned monomer mixture is preferably 10-80wt.% aliphatic conjugated diene-based monomer, 0-10wt.% ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acid monomer and 20-90wt.% monomer selected from alkyl unsaturated carboxylates, etc.
