To obtain a copper phthalocyanine pigment which has qualities not inferior to a conventional one by subjecting copper phthalocyanine synthesized from a phthalic acid compound, phthalic acid or its derivative, copper or its compound, and urea to wet grinding in the presence of a grinding medium.
A compound of formula I, phthalic acid or its derivative other than the compound of formula I, copper or its compound, and urea are reacted to give copper phthalocyanine, which is subjected to wet grinding in the presence of a grinding medium having a max, particle size of 0.2-1.0 mm. In formula I, R1 and R2 are each H or a group of formula II; A and B are each carboxy, alkoxycarbonyl, carbamoyl, carboxylate, or nitrile provided they each may be cyclized to form an imide or acid anhydride group; R5 and R6 are each H or an optionally substituted alkyl, alkenyl, or cyclic group provided they are not simultaneously H; and so on.
