To provide a method for efficiently and economically producing a corrugated foil of special structure as the essential constituting member of a honeycomb body, namely a corrugated foil having both almost sine wave and rectangular wave.
A corrugated foil 1 for the metal honeycomb body H to carry an exhaust gas purifying catalyst having both almost sine wave and rectangular wave is produced by inserting a long-sized flat strip 2 (flat foil) having a desired width and made of a thin metallic sheet between a couple of upper and lower rectangular wave forming rolls and forming rectangular waves extending over the whole width of the flat foil 2 in the longitudinal direction of the flat foil 2. The corrugated foil 1 having a rectangular wave is inserted between the almost sine wave and rectangular wave forming rolls formed with a member for forming an almost sine wave higher than the height h12 of the rectangular wave to form the corrugated foil 1 having alternately an almost sine wave having a desired width W1 in the width direction and a rectangular wave having a desired width W2.
