PURPOSE: To obtain the titled crystallized glass having high strength and toughness with good productivity and at a low cost by molding molten glass contg. SiO2 and ZrO2 as the essential components, then crystallizing the glass and depositing tetragonal zirconia in the glass.
CONSTITUTION: Molten glass consisting, by weight, of 35W70% SiO2, 8W40% ZrO2, 0W20% Al2O3, 0W15% P2O5, 0W50% CaO, 0W50% ZnO, 10W50% (CaO +ZnO), 10W50% (MgO+CaO+BaO+ZnO) and 0W10% (Na2O+K2O+Li2O) is molded in the prescribed form. Then the molded glass is crystallized at 750W1,300°C to deposit tetragonal zirconia in the glass and the desired crystallized glass is obtained. The obtained crystal glass presents a beautiful white color and has high strength and toughness. Consequently, the glass can be appropriately used as building materials, structural materials, etc.
