PURPOSE: To obtain a cyclic iminoether useful as a raw material for a poly(N- acyl)ethyleneimine which is a polymer having the surface activity and suitable as a detergent and an emulsifying agent, etc., in high yield and purity for a short time.
CONSTITUTION: A compound expressed by formula I or II [R1 and R2 are 1-36C alkyl, alkenyl, phenyl, etc.; R2 is further H; (n) is a number of 1-19] is made to react with a compound expressed by formula III [R3 is II, 1-36C alkyl or alkenyl; (n) is 1 or 2] in the presence of one or more catalysts selected from oxides, sulfates, halides and carboxylates of Li, K, Al, Ca, Mn, Mg, Cu, Zn, Cd, Fe, Co and Ni while removing the produced ammonia by (a) maintaining the moisture content in the reactional system at ≤0.3wt.% at 0.1-10 molar ratio of the compounds expressed by formulas III/I to II or (b) regulating the moisture content in the reactional system to >0.5 and ≤1.0wt.% at 1.5-10 molar ratio of the compounds expressed by formulas III/I to II. Thereby, the objective compound expressed by formula IV or V is advantageously obtained.
