To produce a high-quality resin having a reduced tendency to undergo yellowing or resin burn by using a gasket formed by superposing in a spiral a V- or W-shaped cross-section metallic hoop on a cushioning material having a modulus lower than that of the metallic hoop in the joint of that part of a production equipment which has a negative inside pressure.
This resin is obtained by polymerizing a monomer containing an alicyclic structure in the presence of a polymerization catalyst and optionally hydrogenating the polymer in the presence of a hydrogenation catalyst, removing the solvent from the solution containing the obtained polymer or hydrogenated polymer to leave the polymer resin. The removal of the solvent is performed by heating the solution in a vacuum. A gasket 1 prepared by superposing a V- or W-shaped cross-section metallic hoop 2 on a cushioning material 3 having a modulus lower than that of the hoop 2 in a spiral and having a thickness t1 of about 1-10 mm is used in the joint of that part of the production equipment which has a negative inside pressure, such as joints in the solvent removal process and processes precedent or subsequent thereto.
