Abstract:
PURPOSE: To obtain a high-mol.-wt. cycloolefin copolymer in a high yield by copolymerizing a 2C or higher α-olefin and a specific cycloolefin in the presence of a specific catalyst in a hydrocarbon solvent.
CONSTITUTION: A cycloolefin copolymer is obtd. by copolymerizing a 2C or higher α-olefin and a cycloolefin represented by formula I or II (wherein R1 to R19 are each H, halogen, a hydrocarbon group, etc.), in the presence of a catalyst contg. a transition metal compd. of formula III (wherein M1 is Ti, Zr, Hf, etc.; R1 and R2 are each H, halogen, alkyl, etc.; R3 and R4 are each a hydrocarbon group having a cyclopentadienyl backbone capable of forming a sandwich structure together with the central metal M1; and R5 is -S-, =CO, etc.), an organoaluminumoxy compd., etc., in a solvent mixture comprising 99-50 vol.% hydrocarbon solvent having a solubility parameter of 7.7 or higher and 1-50 vol.% hydrocarbon solvent having a solubility parameter of 7.5 or lower.
