Abstract:
PURPOSE:To obtain the subject copolymer having excellent heat resistance, thermal aging resistance and mechanical properties, etc., by copolymerizing ethylene and cycloolefin in hydrocarbon solvent in the absence of gas-phase part is polymerization vessel. CONSTITUTION:In copolymerization of ethylene and cycloolefin expressed by the formula [n is 0 or positive integer; R<1> to R<12> are H, halogen, hydrocarbon, R<9> (or R<10>) and R<11> (or R<12>) may be jointed with each other to form monocyclic or polycyclic] (e.g. 1,4,5,8-dimethano-1,2,3,4,4a,5,8,8a-octahydronaphthalene) in liquid phase composed of hydrocarbon solvent and in the presence of catalyst to produce cycloolefinic random copolymer, said copolymerization reaction is performed substantially in the absence of gas-phase part in a polymerization vessel generating a solution of said copolymer.
