PURPOSE: To effectively form a good coating film having uniform film thickness even when a coating liquid having solvents of a relatively low boiling point by performing application while feeding the vapor of the same solvent as at least one of the solvents included in the coating liquid.

CONSTITUTION: When a cylindrical coating body is produced, a cylindrical substrate 1 is rotated around its axis, and also a liquid discharge nozzle 4 is relatively moved along the direction of this axis. By discharging a coating on liquid from the liquid discharge nozzle 4, the coating liquid is applied the surface of the cylindrical substrate 1 in a spiral to form the continuous coating liquid. In this case, while the vapor of the same solvent as at least one of solvents contained in the coating liquid is fed to an application area, application is made in the vapor environment. For example, the cylindrical substrate 1 and the application area are enclosed by a shroud 2, and also the same solvent as at least one of the solvents contained in the coating liquid is stored in a solvent receiver 3 in the lower part of the shroud 2.
