Abstract:

PURPOSE: To reduce the cost of molding the cylindrical metallic composite by subjecting a specifically laminated band-shaped sheet-like preform to high- temp. low-pressure molding.
CONSTITUTION: A sheet-like preform formed of silicon carbide fibers and aluminum alloy by chemical vapor deposition is cut in parallel with the fiber direction of the silicon carbide fibers and is divided to the plural band-shaped sheet-like preforms 18. The divided band-shaped sheet-like preforms 18 are wound around a cylindrical inner mandrel 21 to form a 1st layer. The plural band-shaped sheet-like preforms 19, 20, 17 successively wound on this layer in the fiber direction different from the fiber direction of the band-shaped sheet-like preform 18 of the 1st layer, by which the laminated cylindrical inner mandrel is formed. In succession, an outer mandrel is put on this inner mandrel and thereafter the mandrels are mounted to a hot isostatic pressurizing device, by which the laminated preform is subjected to a heating and pressurizing treatment at the solid-liquid co-existence temp. of an Al alloy and under a pressure between 35kg/cm2 and 50kg/cm2.
