PURPOSE: A sheet for transferring a roughened surface is laid between piled prepregs of thermosetting resin and a backer plate and they are heated under pressure followed by metal plating the roughened surface, thereby producing decorative sheets with metal surface of thin thickness and high adhesion.

CONSTITUTION: Prescribed sheets of thermosetting resin prepregs are piled and a sheet for transferring roughened surfaces is placed on the pile so that the roughened surface opposes to the prepreg and further a backer plate with irregularly roughened pattern is placed on the transferring sheet so as to make the irregularly roughened surface face the transferring sheet. Then they are heated under pressure to form a base plate with transferred roughened and irregular pattern. The roughened surface of the base plate is chemically metal plated. The prepreg of thermosetting resin used is, e.g., a base material as paper or cloth impregnated with such as phenol- formaldehyde or epoxy resin.
