To provide a method for producing a desulfurizing agent for a dry desulfurization, having durability against heat, a large specific surface area and high desulfurizing activities.
Titania, which is a carrier for a desulfuring agent, and a carbon powder are mixed and previously fired at a temperature (e.g. about 600-1200°C) higher than the reactivation temperature under an inert gas atmosphere. An active carbon, an unburned char, etc., and used as the carbon powder, the percentage of which is 0.5-10wt.%, preferably 1-2wt.% based on the carrier and the firing period is 1-2hr. The previously fired titania containing the carbon powder is cooled and pulverised. Further, an active component for the desulfurization composed of a metal oxide is supported on the pulverised material in the atomic ratio of 0.5-10%, preferably 1-5% based on the carrier and fired at a temperature (e.g. 500-600°C) lower than the previously fired temperature to provide the objective desulfurizing agent.
