Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a deuterated compound excellent in economy and versatility, useful as a raw material for medicines, agrochemicals, functional materials, analytical tracers, etc., without the need of using many processes and/or any expensive raw material.
SOLUTION: The deuterated compound is obtained by treating an aliphatic compound (e.g. pentane), alicyclic compound (e.g. cyclohexane), aromatic hydrocarbon (e.g. benzene) or a polymeric compound such as a rubber (e.g. natural rubber) or protein in high-temperature and high-pressure heavy water (deuterium oxide) such as under conditions exceeding the critical temperature and critical, pressure (i.e., supercritical conditions, pref. at 371-500°C under 21.7-50MPa) or in heavy water under subcritical conditions (pref. at 200-371°C under 5-21.7MPa).
