Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a dialkyl carbonate, which is useful as solvent and raw material for the production of medicine, agrochemical, urethane, polycarbonate, and so on, by decarbonylating a dialkyl oxalate in the presence of an alkali metal in gas phase.
SOLUTION: The carbonate is obtained by decarbonylating a dialkyl oxalate (e.g. dimethyl oxalate, diethyl oxalate, ethyl methyl oxalate) in the presence of an alkali metal compound (e.g. an alkali metal salt of an organic car inorganic acid, or an alkali metal hydroxide) in gas phase, preferably, at 200-300°C. Although the alkali metal compound can be used in powder, granule, crushed particle, bead, or molded article, if necessary, it is preferable to support the compound on activated carbon, silica, or alumina. In case the decarbonylation is carried out continuously in gas phase, the gaseous raw material is supplied into a reactor which is filled with the catalyst at a space velocity, preferably, of 400-3,000 h-1.
