Abstract:

PURPOSE: To prepare a diaryl under mild reaction condition, economically, by using a diaryl iodonium salt as a row material, and reacting in a solvent in the presence of a transition metal catalyst and a reducing metal.

CONSTITUTION: The compound of formula II (Ar3 and Ar4 are aryl) is prepared by reacting the diaryl iodonium salt of formula I (Ar1 and Ar2 are aryl which may have substituent group; X- is counter ion inert to the present reaction) in a solvent in the presence of a transition metal catalyst and a reducing metal, at normal temperature W 100°C, preferably below the boiling temperature of the solvent, under normal pressure. The transition metal catalyst is preferably a palladium catalyst. It is preferable to use a reducing metal in combination with the transition metal, and metallic zinc is especially preferable in view of the yield. The amount of the metal is selected to be sufficient to neutralize the counter ion of the diaryl iodonium salt.
