PURPOSE: To obtain the subject compound from benzene or chlorobenzene in high para/ortho ratio by continuously supplying raw material gas/inert gas, chlorine gas and inert gas to a specific chlorination agent composition while successively alternating each pulse of the above gases.
CONSTITUTION: The objective compound is produced in high efficiency at isomer ratios (P/O) of (20-30)/1 and [P/(P+O)] of 95-97% by successively repeating the following processes (1) to introduce pulse 222 of evaporated benzene or chlorobenzene into a reactor 220 containing a chlorination agent consisting of FeCl3 or a mixture of FeCl3 and AlCl3 to convert the benzene, etc., into p-dichlorobenzene (DCB), (2) to supply an inert gas pulse 224 and separate the above pulse 222 from the chlorine gas pulse 226 to be supplied thereafter, (3) to supply chlorine gas pulse 226 to reactivate the chlorination agent, (4) to supply an inert gas and separate the chlorine gas pulse 226 from the raw material gas pulse 222 to be supplied thereafter and (5) to recover the produced p-DCB.
