Title:
PRODUCTION OF DIHYDROXYDIPHENYL SOLUFONE
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP3890387
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method capable of industrially advantageously producing both high-purity 2,4'-dihydroxydiphenyl sulfone and 4,4'dihydroxydipheyl sulfone.
SOLUTION: In producing a dihydroxydiphenyl sulfone by reacting a sulfonating agent with phenol by dehydration, 1mol of the sulfonating agent is reacted with 2.0-4.0mol of phenol in odichlorobenzene solvent in an amount of 2.0-6.5 times as much as the theoretical yield of the dihydroxydiphenyl sulfone. When the reaction is completed, the ratio of unreacted phenol to the total amount of the unreacted phenol and o-dichlorobenzene in the reaction solution is regulated to 2-20wt.%. Further, the total amount of the unreacted phenol and o- dichlorobenzene is regulated to 2.0-7.0 times as much as the theoretical yield of the dihydroxydiphenyl sulfone. 4,4'-Dihydroxydiphenyl sulfone is precipitated and separated from the reaction solution at 80-160°C and then 2,4'- dihydroxydiphenyl sulfone is isolated from the filtrate.
