Abstract:

To provide a brake pad in which a crack is difficult to be caused at braking time by orientating fiber blended with a friction material in a desired direction and increasing the interlaminar strength of the brake pad.

A preforming die 3 is constituted of side frames 11, 11 and side presser frames 12, 12. A friction material 20 is compressed in the direction parallel to a face 23 adhesive to a back plate 7 by sliding the side presser frames 12, 12 in the cross direction and is preformed. Fiber 21 blended with the friction material 20 generally tries to change a direction into the direction orthogonal to the direction compressed during forming. Accordingly, fiber 21 is orientated in the orthogonal direction for the adhesive face 23 by compressing the friction material 20 in the direction nearly parallel to the adhesive face 23 allowed to adhere to the back plate 7 in the case of preforming.
