Title:
PRODUCTION OF DRY, SULFUR-FREE, CH4-ENRICHED SYNTHESIS GAS OR FUEL GAS
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPH0657267
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To produce dry, sulfur-free, CH4-enriched synthesis gas.

CONSTITUTION: Extremely cryogenic liquefied natural gas(LNG) is used as a source of refrigeration and methane in the production of dry, sulfur-free, methane-enriched synthesis gas or fuel gas. Raw syngas is indirectly and directly brought into contact with the extremely cryogenic liquefied natural gas to cool to a temperature below the dew point. Water is thereby condensed and separated from the process gas stream. Further, the liq. LNG vaporizes and the methane content is increased in the dehydrated synthesis gas. A cold liq. absorbent solvent is brought into contact with the dry CH4-enriched synthesis gas in the absorption column 45 and absorbs acid gases such as H2S and COS, and optionally H2S+COS+CO2. In a preferably practical example, the concd. solvent absorbent is regenerated in the stripping column 58 and the released acid gases are sent to a Claus unit for the production of elemental sulfur.
