Abstract:

To obtain an ethylene/butene copolymer by using ethylene as only one monomer by using a catalyst comprising a metallocene compound and an ionizing agent.

A signal metallocene catalyst coning (A) a metallocene compound of the formula [(C5R4) is a substituted cyclopentadienyl ring; (C5R'4) is an indenyl ring, etc.; R and R' are each H, etc.; R" is a bridge between a (C5R4) ring and (C5R'4) ring for providing steric rigidity and is only one carbon atom; Q is a 1-20C hydrocarbyl; Me is a metal of the group IIIB of the periodic table; (p) is a number obtained by subtracting 2 from the valence of Me] {e.g. isopropylidene[3-t-butylcyclopentadienyl-1-(2-methylindenyl)]zirconium chloride} and (B) an ionizing agent (e.g. methylaluminoxane) is prepared, the catalyst is introduced to a polymerization reaction zone containing ethylene, the reaction zone is maintained under a polymerization reaction condition to extract an ethylene/butene copolymer.
