Abstract:
PURPOSE: To selectively and readily produce E type prostaglandins having cis double band in the α-chain or their esters in good yield.
CONSTITUTION: E type prostaglandins or their esters of formula I (R is H, 1-4C alkyl or substitutable allyl; R4 and R5 are H or OH-protecting group; A, R6 and R7 are optional group without participating in reaction; B is C-C single bond or optional group without participating in the reaction; Y is vinylene) are made to react with formic acid in the presence of a 0- or bivalent palladium complex or complex salt, e.g. tris(dibenzylideneacetone)dipalladium(0) chloroform or bis(acetylacetonato)palladium(II) to afford the objective E type prostaglandins or their esters of formula II (R' is H when R is H or substitutable allyl and 1-4C alkyl when R is 1-4C alkyl). These compounds of formula II (R4 and R5 are H) are useful for treating various diseases including peripheral circulatory disorder.
