PURPOSE: To obtain the optical fiber cable connection part which improves the reliability of optical fiber cable connection an is easy and economical in construction by providing a protection material, consisting of a flexible reinforcing tube and a lead layer extrude right onto the outer periphery of the flexible reinforcing tube to cover it, around the outer periphery of the optical fiber connection part of the optical fiber cable connection part.
CONSTITUTION: To protect the connection part 9 consisting of a coated optical fiber 2 and a fusion-splicing connection part 3 altogether, it is protected with the protection material 10 which is previously fitted onto the periphery of an optical fiber cable 1. This protection material 10 is formed by integrating the flexible reinforcing tube 4 and lead layer 5 by extruding lead directly onto the outer periphery of the flexible reinforcing tube 4 consisting of a stainless steel spiral tube, etc., to cover the tube. After the protection material 10 is inserted into the connection part 9, both its ends are drawn to form drawn parts 11 which are fitted in the sheath 8 of the optical cable 1. The inside of the protection material 10 may be filled with a proper filler. Consequently, there is no gap formed between the flexible reinforcing tube 4 and lead layer 5, so that lead layer 5 is prevented from deforming during laying operation.
