PURPOSE: To easily obtain an electrical contact material having a high sintering degree and contg. finely dispersed enough metal particles for enhancing contact characteristics.

CONSTITUTION: Alloy powder obtd. by alloying Ag with at least one kind of element for improving sinterability selected from among Al, Si, Zr, Ti and Cr by a very rapid cooling method and a nonsilver metal for enhancing contact characteristics are converted into composite metal powder by mechanical combining treatment and this powder is compacted and sintered to produce the objective electrical contact material made of a sintered compact contg. nonsilver metal particles for enhancing contact characteristics dispersed in the Ag matrix. The amt. of the element for improving sinterability is 0.1-5wt.% of the total amt. (100%.%) of the Ag, the element for improving sinterability and the nonsilver metal for enhancing contract or ability. The amt. of the nonsilver metal is 5-30wt.%.
