To provide a ternary polymerization method giving a terpolymer having characteristics capable of being better controlled by means of specific characteristics of various monomers.
This method for producing an ethylene copolymer is to produce a terpolymer consisting of ethylene and at least 2 kinds of other olefinic unsaturated compounds by polymerizing the monomers in a tubular reaction vessel equipped with at least one bypass part, in which a fresh monomer component (a main flow) introduced from a inlet port of the reaction vessel to the tubular reaction vessel and fresh monomer components (one or plural sub-flows) introduced through one or plural bypass parts, contain ethylene and at most one kind of further different olefinic unsaturated compound in each of the flows.
