PURPOSE: To obtain a fabric which is a lightweight fabric, comprising a polyester, having the good touch and water absorbing properties and useful for clothes such as sportswears or inner wears.

CONSTITUTION: Combined filaments of different sizes, having a flat cross section at 1.5-5 flatness degree and one or more protruding parts in the outer peripheral part of the cross section and comprising a slightly alkali-soluble polyester-based polymer such as polyethylene terephthalate are used as a core yarn, combined and interlaced with a false twist textured yarn of a core-sheath conjugated fiber comprising a slightly alkali-soluble polymer of a C type cross sectional shape constituting a sheath component and a readily alkali-soluble polymer such as a polyester copolymerized with 5-sodium sulfoisophthalic acid, communicating with the core component and constituting a part of the fiber surface as a sheath yarn to provide a combined filament yarn. The resultant combined filament yarn is used to weave or knit a fabric, which is then treated with an alkali. The water absorbing processing of the treated fabric is subsequently carried out with a polyester-based water absorbent, etc.
