To easily obtain a fatty acid metal salt useful as a stabilizer for plastics, etc., having a desired particle diameter in high purity without lowering the yield of the product and impairing a work environment by reacting raw materials in a metal-rich state at the early time of the reaction.

The method for producing the fatty acid metal salt comprises reacting a part, preferably 80-90wt.%, of a desired amount of a fatty acid, preferably beef tallow-decomposed hardened fatty acids comprising 30wt.% of palmitic acrid and 70wt.% of stearic acid with the whole amount of a desired amount of a metal oxide and/or a metal hydroxide, e.g. quicklime, and subsequently reacting the reaction product with the remaining amount of the fatty acid.
