Abstract:
PURPOSE: To produce a fiber reinforced metal without applying pressure.
CONSTITUTION: A powdery mixture 2 of materials generating high heat of reaction by contact with a molten matrix metal 4 is spread on a preform 3 made of a reinforcing material and they are set in a metal mold 1. The molten matrix metal 4 is then poured in the mold 1, heat is generated and the metal 4 is allowed to penetrate into the preform 3 by gravity while maintaining and improving the flowability. Thus, the objective fiber reinforced metal is produced.
