To form a porous membrane having uniform thickness and a smooth membrane surface and sharp in pore size distribution.
The filter containing a ceramic porous membrane as a separation membrane is produced by a process wherein the surface on which the separation membrane is to be formed of a porous substrate and the surface on which the separation membrane is not formed thereof are isolated in an airtight manner and a membrane forming slurry is continuously sent to the surface on which the separation membrane must be formed in this state to be brought into contact therewith and filtering differential pressure is applied across both surfaces of the substrate to form the slurry into a membrane. In this case, an org. polymer imparting filtering resistance to the formed membrane layer is added to the membrane forming slurry.
