To produce a filter whose substrate material is hardly oxidized and decomposed completely by forming all or a part of a filter intermediate having a desired shape by using a material in which a photocatalyst is added to the substrate material consisting of an org. material and previously irradiating the intermediate with a light activating the incorporated photocatalyst.
In the case when the filter constituted by adding a photooxidative catalyst such as deodorizing filter of an air purifier is produced, at first at the first stage, the photocatalyst is added to the substrate material containing the org. material, then at the second stage, all or a part of the filter intermediate are formed by using the substrate material. Then at an aging stage, the org. material on the surface of the photocatalyst is oxidized and decomposed by previously irradiating the filter intermediate with the light activating the photocatalyst. In the case when a paper made filter containing titanium oxide is produced, the aging is executed preferably in a condition in which a compound content of titanium oxide is 40 wt.%, the light is a UV light having ≤400 nm wavelength and a light strength on the surface of the filter is 0.5-100 mW/cm2.
