PURPOSE: To produce fine resin particles having a narrow particle size distribution and desired particle diameter with a high efficiency, by dispersing a resin containing a colorant or magnetic material in a liquid dispersion medium and applying a shearing force to the dispersion in a state heated to the melting temperature of the resin or above.
CONSTITUTION: A dispersion system obtained by dispersing a resin containing a colorant or magnetic material in a liquid dispersion medium is heated at the melting temperature of the resin or above and a shearing force is applied thereto in the state to divide the resin. A dispersion stabilizer may be further incorporated in the liquid dispersion medium. An aqueous dispersion system is used as the liquid dispersion system and a stabilizer selected from surfactants, water-soluble high polymers and inorganic salts may be used as the stabilizer. The amount of the resin contained in the dispersion system is 30W95wt% preferably 40W90wt% and the heating is carrier out at temperatures to give 10W106 poises, preferably 102W106 poises, viscosity to the resin.
