Title:
PRODUCTION OF FINE ZIRCONIUM OXIDE PARTICLE
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPS6291421
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain the titled fine ZrO2 particles of the submicron order having excellent monodispersibility and having an even spherical shape by hydrolyzing a zirconium alkoxide in an alcohol under controlled conditions.

CONSTITUTION: The fine ZrO2 particles are produced by hydrolyzing the zirconium alkoxide in an alcohol. In this case, the concn. of the zirconium alkoxide in the reaction soln. is regulated to ≤0.2mol/l at the start of the reaction and the amt. of water is controlled to less than the equivalent amt. necessary for the hydrolysis of the zirconium alkoxide, an alcohol ≥0.5 times the total amt. of the reaction soln. is added when colloidal ZrO2 particles are formed, and then the reaction soln. is agitated to grow the fine ZrO2 particle. Fine ZrO2 particles of the submicron order having excellent monodispersibility and having an even spherical shape can be obtained. The fine particles are suitable as the raw material for dense sintered ceramics and the application to electronics materials, pigments, paints, cosmetics, jewelry, etc., can be expected.
