PURPOSE: To manufacture a fluid bearing of high accuracy with a simple and inexpensive device by press-contacting to a work plural balls arranged inside the track groove of a ball holding member and moving the ball holding member and work relatively in the relatively rotating and axial directions.
CONSTITUTION: A stationary ring 3 is fixed to the small diameter part 2 at the tip of a pin 1 by its pressure-fitting with outer fitting to form a track groove 4. A hard ball 5 in the diameter slightly larger than the depth of this track groove 4 is arranged in plural pieces inside the groove 4. This pin 1 is press- fitted onto the inner diameter face 6a of a bearing sleeve 6 to press-contact said ball 5 to this inner diameter face 6a. The pin 1 and sleeve 6 are then rotated relatively and relatively moved in the axial direction with rolling the ball 5. The spiral groove in multiple lines corresponding to the number of balls 5 is subjected to plastic working onto said inner diameter face 6a by said rolling ball 5 to form the fluid bearing having a power generating groove 8.
