PURPOSE: To obtain the subject coke meeting the dimension standard by incorporating coke meeting the quality standard for casting coke but not meeting the dimension standard with a caking agent and a specific thermosetting resin followed by hot press molding and then heating treatment.

CONSTITUTION: (A) Fine granular coke meeting the quality standard for the ash and sulfur contents of casting coke but not meeting the dimensional standard for casting coke is incorporated with (B) a coal tar pitch-based caking agent and (C) an ash-and-sulfur-free thermosetting resin (e.g. phenolic resin), the resulting mixture is put into a kneader and kneaded at a preheating temperature of 60-70°C, and the kneaded product is transferred to a press molding machine to carry out hot press molding into a columnar form 110mm in diameter and 110mm in length followed by treatment of this molding under heating to effect curing, thus giving the objective formed coke meeting the dimensional standard for casting coke and having the quality standard suitable for casting, using fine granular coke, as raw material, not meeting the standards for casting.
