PURPOSE: To obtain cell-containing frozen small particles having excellent handleability, etc., by forming minute droplet of a cell-containing suspension and dripping and dispersing the droplet on a low-temperature liquefied gas refrigerant having surface ripples and colder than a specific temperature, thereby instantaneously freezing the droplet.
CONSTITUTION: A liquefied gas refrigerant liquid 2 is held in a refrigerant reservoir 1 and maintained at ≤-15°C. At the same time, the surface layer of the refrigerant 2 is applied with kinetic energy by a ripple generator 3 to ripple the liquid surface L. The ripple generator 3 is e.g. a gas diffusion pipe 3a to supply a refrigerant gas from the vapor phase of a refrigerant liquid supplying apparatus 8. A cell-containing suspension 9 and mixing gas 10 are supplied to a spraying device 4, mixed and atomized to droplet of ≤500μ diameter. The droplets are dropped and dispersed on the refrigerant liquid 2. The produced cell-containing frozen small particles having particle diameter of ≤500μ are collected.
