Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing a gas diffusion electrode raw material which does not use water and surfactants, thereby can attain cost reduction owing to device miniaturization, can also contribute to energy- saving and by which desirable structure of carbon black and PTFE can be self-organized.
SOLUTION: In the method for manufacturing a reaction layer raw material or a gas supply layer raw material of the gas diffusion electrode, gas diffusion electrode materials except PTFE(polytetrafluoroethylene) are dispersed into an organic solvent which is immiscible with water, the dispersed liquid is mixed with PTFE dispersion and is subjected to ultrasonic irradiation or violent agitation and shaking to mix and disperse PTFE fine particles with the gas diffusion electrode materials in the organic solvent. It is desirable that the organic solvent is at least one kind selected from a group composed of butyl acetate, solvent naphtha, petroleum naphtha and fluorine-based solvents.
