To produce a glass cell free from waviness in inner and outer surfaces which are optically important.
A mold 11 is inserted into a bottom-closed cylindrical glass container 10, and this is held in a state where the bottom face 10b is upward. Then, the glass container 10 is raised into a heating furnace together with the mold 11 having the bottom face 10b at the upper side while reducing the inner pressure. The side face 10c of the glass container 10 is heated to soften from the bottom face 10b toward the opening 10a. This allows the inner face of the glass container 10 to be formed along the mold 11 owing to the suction force of the inside of the glass container 10. Further, the outer face 10c of the glass container 10 is free from the generation of drooping toward the holding part by its own weight which may cause heavy waviness.
